Natalie Martin
Natalie L. Martin has served as an educator for over thirty-two years. With twenty-seven of those years working with the English Language population. She spent seventeen years as an elementary and middle school educator of fifth, third and seventh grades consecutively. She served as an elementary school assistant principal for eight years and took an early retirement in January 2014. During her retirement, Ms. Martin continued to champion the pedagogies of education by creating Cursive Handwriting 101. A class where she taught cursive handwriting to underprivileged youth through a non-profit after school program. She also developed a reading plus program where students were tutored to improve their reading/comprehension skills. With both platforms, Ms. Martin noted significant gains in students’ cursive writing development, as well as one to two year’s growth in students’ reading scores.
After a four-year hiatus from the “brick and mortar” aspects of education, Ms. Martin returned to a classroom setting, as a substitute, to teach 8th grades social studies. When the teacher of record took family medical leave, the door was opened for Ms. Martin to become the permanent teacher. This afforded her the opportunities to fully implement her sound teaching practices as well as the positive behavior classroom management system garnered from the positive behavior training through Vanderbilt University’s Education Department.
Ms. Martin has worked with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as a trainer with their GoMath series. She trained numerous teachers on how to purposefully use the digital platform to create and implement rigorous, computer based mathematic lessons that inevitably increased students’ assessment scores. Ms. Martin has also trained educators on how to execute the TEAM evaluation indicators effectively through intentional and effective planning. Ms. Martin graduated from Lane College in Jackson, TN with a BA in Elementary Education.
She completed her Master’s Degree in Administration Supervision from Trevecca University in Nashville, TN. She also has completed her English Language studies at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. Ms. Martin believes in serving her students, colleagues and parents whole-heartedly without conditions. She is known
by her colleagues to give constructive, unselfish advice to ensure adult camaraderie that will foster student success. Ms. Martin is an avid greeting card designer, arts and crafter and “Do It Yourself” creator.
